Eczema
Eczema is a blanket term used to describe several types of dermatitis. It can manifest as dry, scaly and/or itchy skin ranging from mild to extreme.
The primary cause of eczema is an immune system disorder. Research continues in an effort to discover how best to treat the cause. Until such knowledge is available the treatment of eczema will continue to focus on treating the symptoms. Eczema is a non- contagious itching, redness, and/or ongoing irritation of the skin. The characteristics of the condition can vary from slight redness to blistering and weeping. The history and symptoms will determine which type of Eczema is diagnosed.
Eczema affects both children and adults. In children Eczema is usually diagnosed in the first year of life.
Eczema in adults is most often caused by contact with, or exposure to, a skin irritant such as; detergents, paints, perfumes, cosmetics or certain fabrics. This form of eczema is usually short term and healthy skin will regenerate if the cause is avoided or eliminated. However, if not treated the skin can become broken and infected leading to a need for more serious medical attention.
There are many treatments for eczema including non prescription (OTC) applications.
Mushatt's No. 9 Eczema Skin Cream was developed through a process that began in Ireland in 1922. The Mushatt brothers, both pharmacists, developed compounds for various skin conditions in Ireland during the 1920's. Mushatt's No. 9 Eczema Skin Cream is now manufactured in an FDA registered facility in the United States.
